Everyone loves the food they grew up with, and perhaps nothing is more comforting to a traveler than familiar cuisine from home. As a destination for migrants from diverse backgrounds, Cairo has more variety on its tables than meets the eye. Many migrants cook daily meals of their native food at home; others cook their cuisines to share with their wider communities, or to offer to those curious to try something new. In this video, Mada Masr visits the kitchens of migrants living in Cairo — a home caterer from Morocco, a football player from Côte d'Ivoire and restaurant owners from China — to discover what's on their table this Ramadan, far from home.
