Four years after the advent of the coronavirus, Islam Zona revisits the documentary footage he filmed in Al-Zawya al-Hamra during the pandemic’s first Ramadan. With his camera, he takes us to nocturnal gatherings of neighbors and friends, in which the young men banter, debate and open up to each other about their fears, frustrations and dreams. Engaging anew with this candid portrayal of his local community during an exceptional moment in recent history, Zona realizes that the corona crisis of the time wasn’t all bad.
