Ahmed al-Hadi became enamored with Indian films in his youth, mesmerized by their songs, dances, bright colors and drama. While working in Alexandria’s Odeon Cinema, Hadi started dancing to Hindi music for the audiences. Encouraged by their delight, he turned this spectacle into a way of life. He sang and danced for soldiers and officers during his army service, and for his co-workers throughout his career in the textile industry. Now Hadi — known as “Hindi” — roams the streets of Alexandria, singing and dancing for the public with joyful abandon.
