Sur health official: District hospitals each receive 20 injured daily in Israeli airstrikes | Israel kills 23 in bombing of Jbeil | 7 paramedics among 14 killed in Sur airstrike
An Israeli airstrike on the Almat village in the Jbeil district north of Beirut killed 23 people, including seven children, on Sunday afternoon, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry. Six more children were injured in the strike.
In southern Lebanon, three paramedics of the Islamic Health Authority in Saida were killed in an aerial raid on the authority’s headquarters in the Adloun village on the same day.
Sur was also targeted by a fire belt on Saturday night, with multiple airstrikes launched on the coastal district at the same time.
One of the raids on Saturday night targeted a point used by the ambulance agency in Sur, killing 14 people, including seven paramedics, the Health Ministry said, noting that rescue operations in the area are still ongoing as many remain stuck under the rubble.
The ministry reported earlier on Saturday that intense aerial raids targeting the historic neighborhood of Baalbek to the northeast had killed 20 people and injured 14.
The intensive raids since Sunday night caused a large number of injuries and deaths and have put pressure on the hospitals responding to the attacks, especially in the bombed areas, Sur health department director Wissam Ghazal told Mada Masr.
The hospitals of Marjeyoun and Bint Jbeil, which were the first to receive injured people when Israel launched its aggression on Lebanon, have been put out of service by the Israeli aggression, Ghazal explained. This put severe pressure on the three hospitals in Sur, according to Ghazal, who noted that each hospital receives no less than 20 injured people daily as a result of Israeli bombing.
Meanwhile, families continue to search hospitals for their relatives who went missing in the airstrikes, conducting DNA tests on the remains of bodies to identify them, according to Ghazal.
He noted that, amid the repeated targeting of medical and ambulance teams, some medical workers have decided to leave the service and focus only on their families’ needs or on fleeing with them, which resulted in a shortage in medical staff. The hospitals have also become shelters for many, increasing the burden on their water and electricity supplies, he added.
In total, 3,136 people were killed in Lebanon and 13,979 others injured since the start of Israeli aggression on Lebanon, according to the latest estimates announced on Saturday by the Health Ministry.
For its part, Hezbollah continued to fight back against the Israeli military, targeting settlements in northern Israel today with rocket attacks that injured three Israelis.
