Rafah crossing to open during Bairam feast
Egyptian Authorities agreed to open the Rafah border crossing during the three-day Bairam feast, starting Monday and ending on Thursday.
According to privately owned Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper, a source stated that the crossing would open to enable wounded Palestinian citizens seeking medical care to be treated in Egyptian hospitals and to allow aid convoys and delegations to cross into the Gaza Strip.
The source added that there would be extra staff at the border during the official holiday period.
Two weeks ago, Egypt closed the crossing after opening it for just one day to allow 11 injured Palestinians entry to receive medical treatment.
Rafah is the only crossing in or out of the Palestinian enclave.
There have been several attempts by convoys to deliver medication and aid to Gaza. On Friday, The Popular Campaign to Support the Uprising of the Palestinian People successfully delivered a convoy of humanitarian aid to the embattled area.
On the same day, the Pharmacists Syndicate announced that it had obtained all necessary permits to send a convoy of medicine to Gaza. According to the organizers, the convoy successfully transported five tons of medicine.
