The organizing committee for the Miss Egypt beauty pageant have announced the resumption of their annual contest this year, following a three-year hiatus.

The organizing committee moved to suspend the pageant shortly after the January 25 uprising in 2011.

A total 21 female contestants were chosen to partake in the Miss Egypt 2014 pageant which is due to be held in the Red Sea resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh – under the title "Gamalek ya Masr" (Your Beauty, Egypt) although no official date has yet been set for this event.

The 21 contestants were first introduced on Thursday during a broadcast of the show "Sa’a ma’a Sherif" (An Hour with Sherif) hosted by TV anchor Sherif Madkour.

A panel of nine judges, including previous winners of the Miss Egypt pageant, will preside over the contest and will determine the winner of the Miss Egypt 2014 title, as well as the runners-up.

This Miss Egypt contest in turn may potentially qualify winners to partake in global beauty pageants such as Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, Miss Supranational, Miss Grand International and Miss Intercontinental.

In 1954, Antigone Costanda, a Greek-Egyptian, won first place at the Miss World beauty pageant.
