Beitrut witnessed another night of heavy Israeli bombing on Friday, with at least 14 airstrikes targeting different areas in the Lebanese capital’s southern suburb.

The strikes repeatedly targeted the Hadath, Haret Hreik and Bourj al-Barajneh areas in the southern suburb after the Israeli military issued evacuation orders to residents surrounding certain buildings in these areas, which it claimed were Hezbollah facilities.

Israeli airstrikes also continued in southern Lebanon on Friday night. In the city of Sur, at least seven people were killed and 46 more injured in two warplane and drone strikes, the Lebanese Health Ministry said on Saturday, with more bodies and injured people still under the rubble. Sur has increasingly been a focal point of Israel’s strikes over recent weeks.

A Lebanese Government Emergency Committee said on Friday that Israel conducted 84 airstrikes on different parts of Lebanon in 24 hours alone, with 58 targeting areas in Nabatieh Governorate and 22 targeting the South Governorate. Israel also launched airstrikes on Idlib and Aleppo in Syria on Friday night, according to Syrian state media, which said that they “injured a number of soldiers” without providing further details.

The toll of Israel’s aggression on Lebanon has risen since October 2023 to at least 3,118 killed and 13,925 wounded, according to the government emergency committee’s report.

Ain al-Hilweh, the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, located in South Governorate, witnessed heavy gunfire last night, according to the Lebanese National News Agency, following reports of an assassination attempt against a member of the Jund al-Sham militant group.

“Islamic groups have been firing random bullets at homes in the Bustan and Barakasat neighborhoods and Fawqani Street in Ain al-Hilweh, in a sudden manner, after receiving information about an assassination attempt on a person in the Safsaf neighborhood,” said a statement from Fatah, which stressed that its forces in the camp were not involved in the shootout.

For its part, Hezbollah said it launched 16 rocket attacks against different Israeli military targets and settlements in northern Israel throughout Friday night. The targets included Kiryat Shmona, Yir'on, and Margaliot near the border, as well as gatherings of Israeli forces in Manara and Dovev. The Stella Maris naval base, northwest of Haifa, the Ramat David airbase, southeast of Haifa, and the Tel Nof airbase south of Tel Aviv were also targeted, according to Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, Israeli military assaults on the UN Interim Force in Lebanon’s (UNIFIL) sites along the southern border have continued.

Two Israeli military excavators and one bulldozer “destroyed part of a fence and a concrete structure in a UNIFIL position in Ras Naqoura,” the organization said in an online statement on Friday evening, adding that the Israeli military denied the incident had occurred in response to UNIFIL’s protests.

The statement condemned the Israeli military’s “deliberate and direct destruction of clearly identifiable UNIFIL property” as a violation of international law and resolution 1701, noting seven similar incidents that have taken place since Israel told the peacekeeping force to leave its positions along the border on September 30.

Four members of the Malaysian unit of the UNIFIL peacekeeping forces were also injured earlier in the week when an airstrike targeted a car near the Awali military checkpoint to the north of the coastal city of Saida, killing three people in the vehicle. The UNIFIL car was passing nearby at the time.

Three soldiers in the Lebanese military were also injured in the strike.

Under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, UNIFIL forces remain stationed at the border where Hebzollah fighters have been clashing with Israeli forces invading Lebanon since early October. UNIFIL has stated on multiple occasions that they have been subject to intentional Israeli fire.
