Upcoming holiday bazaars
These days, Christmas Bazaars begin in November. Maadi’s Community Services Association has already hosted a number of bazaars, as have the British Community Association and Europe Schule in Katameya — but fortunately, there are more to come.
Whether you are out buying presents or shopping for yourself, you will have more than one opportunity in the coming weeks leading up to Christmas. Bazaars can be fun for kids and are inspiring excursions for the creative.
Friday, November 29 — Weihnachtsbasar at DEO (German School Bazaar), Dokki
Stop by the German School on Mesaha Square in Dokki from 11 am to 4 pm on Friday the 29th for an extravagant display of food and drink from Germany. The bazaar is also known for its craft products. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
Saturday, November 30 — European Charity Bazaar, Conrad Hotel
Head to the Conrad starting from 9:30 am for one of the most anticipated bazaars of the year (due to the abundance of alcohol). Country booths from France and Spain to Switzerland and Denmark sell wine, beer and spirits. The Swiss also sell cheese fondue and raclette. In previous years, visitors were seen leaving with rolling carts loaded with purchases.
Friday, December 6 — Swiss Club Christmas Bazaar, Imbaba
Another popular annual event, the Swiss Club Christmas Bazaar offers a wide array of gifts in a great setting for kids with delicious and varied food. The bazaar runs from 11 am to 6 pm and tickets cost between LE5 and LE10.
Saturday, December 7 — Rotary Christmas Bazaar, Heliopolis
Although no longer very well attended, the Rotary are planning a Christmas bazaar at the Baron Hotel in Heliopolis. It will begin at 10 am and will feature crafts and clothing.
Saturday, December 7 — Mini-European/British Christmas Charity Bazaar (BCA Maadi)
For LE30 per person, come peruse and purchase British and European crafts and goodies at the BCA clubhouse in Maadi on Port Said Street. The bazaar will run from 11 am to 4 pm and the clubhouse has a playground for kids.
Saturday, December 7 — Egyptian Designers Rock Christmas Week, Zamalek
Dina Maghawry Design, Christo Vangelli, Aya Home Textiles and Drumstick are displaying their products at the Dina Maghawry Store on 23 Hassan Assem Street in Zamalek (off Brazil Street). The week-long bazaar will also exhibit art by Noha Hesham. The store is open from 2 pm to 10 pm.
Saturday, December 7 — Alexandria Four Seasons Christmas Bazaar
If you’re heading to Alexandria for the holidays (or live there of course), you can head to the Christmas Grand Bazaar and Kids Party. This grand extravaganza runs from 11 am to 9 pm, and is expected to feature local fashion designers as well as home accessories and food.
