Update: 4 bombs found in October 6 City

Three homemade bombs reportedly exploded in October 6 City on Friday morning, according to state media.

One crude explosive device detonated near a police station, while another went off near the emergency services department, an unnamed senior security source told the state-owned Middle East News Agency (MENA).

A third bomb exploded in the Cairo satellite city's Hay al-Sabea neighborhood, and a fourth device was diffused by a bomb squad, the state-owned newspaper Al-Ahram reported.

No casualties were reported in the explosions, but they did result in “limited material damages,” the security source told MENA.

After the blasts, security forces were deployed to comb October 6 City for other planted explosives, particularly in areas around police stations and checkpoints, MENA said.

As of Friday afternoon, no one had claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Over the past few weeks, the number of bombings has spiked significantly across Egypt.

Both explosive devices and fake bombs have reportedly been found in metro cars, airport terminals and malls, as well as outside governmental buildings and police stations.

Several of these explosive devices detonated with lethal force, resulting in deaths and serious injury. Others were reportedly sound bombs, while still other devices appear to have been planted with the apparent intent of provoking a bomb scare.
