Two soldiers and three ‘terrorists’ killed in Rafah: military spokesman
Armed Forces in Sinai

Two soldiers were killed during an army operation to arrest members of an alleged terrorist cell in the western Mahdeya area, in the border city of Rafah, the official spokesperson of the Armed Forces Ahmed Ali said in a statement Friday.

Military personnel stormed the area to arrest two important leaders of a Sinai-based Islamist group in Rafah, named Shadi al-Meney and Kamal Allam.

The soldiers came under heavy gunfire, resulting in the death of two soldiers and the injury of eight, including one army officer and seven soldiers, as well as the death of three “terrorists,” Ali said.

He added that helicopters were circling the area to aid in the arrest of more “terrorist cells.”

“The Armed Forces mourns the country’s martyrs, who sacrificed their souls in a just cause to fight terrorism in defense of Egypt and national security,” the statement read.
