Road accidents result in 19 deaths Sunday
An accident Sunday morning on the Cairo-Alexandria road resulted in 17 deaths and three injuries, privately owned daily newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm reported.
"A bus transporting workers during rush hour crashed into a parked tractor, after the driver of the bus lost control. All fatal casualties were passengers from the bus, but the tractor driver was also injured, along with two others," according to Al-Masry Al-Youm.
Eight of the deceased were taken to the morgue in Western Nobareya Hospital, while the other nine were sent to Wadi al-Natrun Hospital along with the injured.
Another two died and three were injured in a crash on the Cairo-Assiut road, state-owned EgyNews reported. The injured, including two children, were taken to Beni Suef General Hospital, while the dead were transported to Samta Central Hospital.
A report has been filed and prosecution is investigating the accident, EgyNews added.
According to the World Health Organization’s latest study, 12,000 people die annually in Egypt as a result of road accidents. 48 percent of them are passengers of four-wheeled vehicles, although pedestrians also constitute a significant proportion (20 percent) of fatalities.
