Ports closed due to heavy rainfalls and high winds

Authorities closed Alexandria’s Borghazi and Dekheila ports early Saturday morning due to poor weather conditions, as heavy rain and high winds hit the coastal city, Cairo and other governorates.

The weather caused waves as high as three meters as winds speeds reached 30 knots per hour, head of Alexandria’s Port Authority Adel Hammad told state-run news portal EgyNews.

Heavy rain and strong winds hit Alexandria and areas on the North Coast starting late Friday, and are expected to continue for three days.

The Fishermen’s Syndicate in Suez warned of the weather conditions and told fishermen to take extra precautionary measures, state-owned MENA reported.

Streets in the Gharbiya governorate were also flooded due to the ongoing downpour. Meanwhile, traffic in Qaliubiya was snarled after roads, tunnels and bridges were drenched due to the heavy rainfall.
