Police defuse homemade bomb in Alexandria

Alexandrian security forces defused a homemade bomb planted at Misr train station in downtown Alexandria on Sunday.

The bomb was found in Martyrs Square by the train station, one of the busiest areas in the city, privately owned Al-Shorouk newspaper reported.

After the bomb was defused, civil protection forces cordoned off the area and police dogs were dispatched to search for other bombs inside the station.

The report states that there were no casualties.

In May, 27 people were arrested for possessing homemade bombs, Molotov cocktails and knives following clashes between Muslim Brotherhood affiliated protesters and the residents of Amreya district in Alexandria. Two were killed and four others were injured during the clashes.

In the same month, the criminal court issued death sentences to Brotherhood affiliated defendants for throwing a teenager off the roof of a building in Alexandria causing his death. The incident took place during the nationwide clashes that followed the ousting of former President Mohamed Morsi.
