Police arrest four suspects in Aswan tribal clashes
Security forces arrested four people on Monday who are suspected of involvement in the bloody clashes that took place between two tribes earlier this month in Aswan, leaving 26 dead, according to state owned MENA.
Clashes between the Hilail and Nubian Dabodeya tribes broke out in early April, as violence gripped the al-Sail al-Reefy area, east of Aswan, for at least three days until a truce was brokered.
The dispute began between two students, but escalated when members of Hilail killed four Nubians belonging to Dabodeya, including a woman, activists told Mada Masr at the time.
In an operation carried out on Monday, security forces arrested the main suspect, a 32-year-old man who allegedly opened fire and killed the four from the Dabodeya tribe.
A total of 22 people have been arrested, 18 of which have been detained pending investigations.
