Occupation constructs road separating northern Gaza from rest of strip
The Occupation military has begun to build a road stretching from the east of the Gaza Strip to its west.
Israel’s Channel 14 broadcast footage of the road, dubbed Route 749, cutting the northern region of the strip from central Gaza.
The footage and eyewitness accounts said that the road starts at the Israeli settlement of Nahal Oz to Gaza’s east, in the area known as the “Gaza envelope,” which surrounds the strip’s border.
Wadi Gaza, Nuseirat and Maghazi, Rafah and Khan Younis are separated by the road cutting through the middle of Gaza City from Jabaliya, Beit Lahya and Beit Hanoun in the north.
The Gaza municipality stated on Tuesday that the Occupation military has destroyed around one million square meters of roads and streets in Gaza since the onset of the aggression. The Occupation targeted paved roads, sidewalks, traffic signals, and various road-related facilities through airstrikes and bulldozers, it said.
The municipality also reported on Monday that since the start of the aggression, Occupation forces have destroyed all sewage stations in Gaza, leading to the leakage of sewage into the streets, shores, and rainwater collection ponds.
Reports noted in January that the Occupation military had cleared a one-kilometer-wide area along the perimeter of the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials have also reportedly said they want a buffer zone as part of planning in “day-after” scenarios being discussed to conclude Israel’s aggression on the strip.
Rights organizations recently estimated that about 70 percent of the strip’s infrastructure has been destroyed since October 7.
