Morsi’s son gets 1-year jail term and LE10,000 fine in drug case

A Greater Cairo Criminal Court sentenced the former president’s son to a one-year jail term and hard labor for narcotics possession, the state-run Ahram Gate Arabic language news site reported today.

Abdallah Morsi, son of jailed Islamist former President Mohamed Morsi, has also been sentenced to a LE10,000 fine. His friend has been handed the same sentence, the website reported.

Mohamed Morsi spent a year in power in Egypt and was ousted by the military last July after a mass wave of protests calling on him to resign.

Morsi and his aides, as well as thousands of Islamists have since faced a harsh crackdown by Egypt’s security forces.
