Market sees slight rise in Sunday’s session

Egypt’s stock market recouped some of the losses it recorded earlier on Sunday to end this week’s first trading session in the green.

The main EGX 30 index closed the day up 0.61 percent at 5,308 points, while the broader EGX 100 saw a slight rise of 0.11 percent.

Total market capitalization clocked in at LE355 billion at the end of the trading session, after losing LE800 million when the market opened, according to the state-run Al-Ahram portal.

Egyptian and Arab investors were net sellers at LE196.8 million and LE 19.9 million respectively, while foreign investors bought into the market at LE 28 million.

The market has lost around LE54 billion in the first six months of the year, Al-Ahram reported, but it has been on a mostly upward trend since June 25 when the EGX 30 stood at 4,534.

Meanwhile, the US dollar has retreated slightly against the Egyptian pound in early trade on Sunday, with a buy price of LE7 and selling at LE7.03. Last week, the US dollar was down 1.5 percent, Al-Ahram reported.
