Giza gets new security director in wake of attacks

Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim has appointed General Kamal al-Daly head of Giza Security Directorate, replacing Hussein al-Kady, state news agency MENA reported.

Daly had previously served as head of general intelligence in Giza. State media reported that the move is part of a series of routine transfers and promotions within the ministry.

However, it also comes after police forces protested the deaths of their colleagues during an armed assault on the Kerdassa police station earlier this month.

Police officers on Sunday blocked a road near the Giza Security Directorate, demanding justice for the killings.

More than 15 police officers were killed when armed men attacked the Kerdassa police station on August 14, after two sit-ins by supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsi were violently dispersed by security forces. A wave of attacks on police stations, churches and state institutions swept the country.

The Kerdassa station was also reportedly attacked by a rocket propelled grenade. According to local pres reports, more than 55 were arrested in relation to the case.
