Brotherhood: Dawn police raid at official’s home
The police raided the home of a Muslim Brotherhood leader in Alexandria early Sunday morning, according to Brotherhood media outlets and state media citing Brotherhood sources.
State newspaper Al-Ahram reported that former Shura Council member Sobhi Saleh was not in when security forces stormed his home in the Smouha neighborhood of Alexandria at 3 am, citing Saleh's Facebook page.
The Brotherhood website Ikhwan Online reported that state security forces proceeded to beat Saleh's daughter, who was alone in the house. The Mubarak-era State Security Investigations Service was renamed the National Security Agency in 2011, but there were no substantive changes to its personnel or structure.
But the Brotherhood spokesperson in Alexandria, Anis al-Qadi, told Al-Ahram's web portal that Saleh's daughter was not beaten. Qadi said security forces searched the home for two hours, until 5 am.
Ikhwan Online said that special forces from the police were also present during the raid.
Saleh, one of the Brotherhood's top officials in Alexandria, has been charged with incitement to violence in connection with the July 5 clashes at Sidi Gaber train station, which quickly gained notoriety after a video circulated appearing to show supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi throwing opponents from a several-meter-high building.
Saleh is also charged with insulting the judiciary, and other incitement to violence charges.
