Bomb kills 3 in Fayoum

A homemade explosive device detonated in a train in Alexandria late Thursday night, injuring nine, reported the state-owned newspaper Al-Ahram.

The device exploded between the towns of Abu Qir and Sidi Gaber.

On Friday, another bomb went off on a Fayoum chicken farm, killing three men. Local media reported that a resident Muslim Brotherhood leader was among the victims, claiming that the chicken factory in question was being used as a bomb-making factory.

However, the Brotherhood-affiliated website fj-p.com denied these reports, alleging in a statement posted on Friday afternoon that six men were killed in the explosion after an unidentified assailant threw the device into the farm. The attack occurred in response to Thursday’s protests on the first anniversary of former President Mohamed Morsi’s ouster, according to the site.

There have been a series of explosions across the country in the past week. On June 30, two policemen were killed while attempting to diffuse a bomb outside the Ettehadiya Presidential Palace.
