At least two killed in Shubra building collapse
At least two people were killed when a four-story building collapsed in Shubra, state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper reported Sunday.
A statement issued by the governorate said the building on Tera’a Street collapsed because it was old and not constructed on concrete columns, state media reported.
The collapse killed 70-year-old Hamida Abdullah and her 24-year-old grandson Ibrahim Hussein, Al-Ahram said.
Neighboring buildings were being inspected for damage following the incident.
Head of the municipality, Mohamed Magdy Habib, was quoted in the state-owned newspaper as saying that any damaged buildings will be evacuated immediately and residents relocated by the governorate.
Earlier this year, another building in Giza collapsed killing three people.
A year earlier, at least 24 people were killed when a building in Alexandria collapsed.
