2 dead, 5 injured by homemade bomb in Aswan

Two died and at least five were injured when a bomb exploded outside a police station in Aswan on Sunday evening.

The explosion was close to the house of the Aswan security director, according to EGYNews.

Among the injured is a conscript in the traffic administration, according to the state-owned news portal.

Ten ambulances headed to the site of the explosion to transport the injured to hospital.

According to preliminary investigations, a homemade bomb was placed inside an electricity converter outside the police station. Other media reports, however, state that the bomb was placed near Al-Nasr mosque on the Corniche.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Last week a wave of bombings in Cairo killed one and injured several others. Six homemade bombs were placed in front of a pizzeria, two phone shops and two police stations.

While many of these attacks target police stations and military facilities, small explosions have recently started to occur in places that civilians frequent, such as train and Metro stations, shopping malls and fast food chains.
