10 dead, 14 injured in Fayoum road crash
Ten died and fourteen were injured when three microbuses crashed into a truck on Sunday on the Beni Suef-Fayoum highway, southwest of Cairo.
Most of the victims were workers at the Fayoum Spinning Factory and were heading home when the crash occurred, according to the privately owned Al-Masry Al-Youm.
Also on Sunday, in the North Sinai city of Arish, two officers and two conscripts were injured when an armored vehicle crashed on the road to Arish Airport.
A security source told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the incident was not related to any criminal activity and that the only injuries were scratches and bruises.
A report issued in March by the interior and transportation ministries said that 62 percent of road and railway accidents in Egypt are caused by human error, but poor infrastructure and insufficient law enforcement are widely blamed.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 12,000 individuals die yearly from road accidents in Egypt.
