1 killed, 6 injured in series of explosions
A fourth homemade bomb exploded in the Ezbet al-Nakhl metro station on Wednesday at noon, following three explosions that took place earlier in the morning at the Ghamra, Shubra al-Kheima and Kobry al-Qubba stations, injuring one worker and one passenger, state-owned Al-Ahram reports.
Two bombs also went off in front of the court complex in Heliopolis. The bombs were reportedly hidden under two cars parked in front of the courthouse.
A security source also told EgyNews that a Molotov cocktail was found in the area and diffused.
On Tuesday night, a tractor operator was also killed in a bombing in 6th of October City, according to the Ministry of Interior.
The ambulance authorities told Masrawy that a total of six people had been injured as a result of the explosions.
An engineer in the central control unit of the metro station told EgyNews that the bombs consisted of plastic tubes filled with gunpowder and were hidden in garbage bins.
Another bomb was discovered and diffused in Helmeyet al-Zeitoun station earlier this morning.
This string of explosions occurs one week before June 30, commemorating one year after the start of demonstrations that escalated into a military decree removing former President Mohamed Morsi from power.
On the eve of January 25 of this year, the third anniversary of the start of the 2011 revolution, a series of explosions took place aiming to destroy the security directorate in Cairo, as well as other smaller targets.
