Counter to gendered stereotypes that bellydancing is for women only, Ali Abdelfattah is an accomplished male bellydancing instructor, teaching both female and male enthusiasts at dance centers in Cairo and Alexandria. Ali feels that he found himself in bellydancing, which perfectly employs his movement-based musical talents. He closely studies the details of bellydance performances in black-and-white Egyptian films, and uses this reference to teach bellydancing in fresh and new ways.
