Video | Beyond the Factory: Molasses makers
In a new episode of Beyond the Factory, a video series where we explore labor intensive workshops across Egypt, journalist Abdel Rahman Mohamed visits the city of Naga Hamady in the Upper Egypt governorate of Qena to document how molasses is made, from the initial harvest of the sugar cane plant, to its pressing and cooking into a syrup. He also speaks to workers and crop owners about their hopes for the future of the Egyptian molasses industry.
