Update: Third officer dies after Beheira bombing, says Health Ministry
A police officer has died from wounds inflicted from a bombing in Beheira on Monday morning, Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar told several media outlets, bringing the death toll up to three, with 33 people injured.
Two police conscripts were killed on site when a bomb detonated next to a bus in Beheira. According to the Interior Ministry's official Facebook page, the bus was heading to Rashid Police Station.
The bomb was planted on the side of the road near Sherif Village in Rashid and exploded as the bus drove by. The ministry's post stated that a bomb squad was combing the area for other explosive devices.
Alaa Eddin Othman, a Health Ministry official in Beheira, identified the deceased conscripts as Megahed Abdel Salam Moussa and Samy Ali Ibrahim. Eyewitnesses stated that residents of the village were tending to the injured, according to the privately owned Al-Masry Al-Youm. State-owned Ahram Gate added the injured policemen were in stable condition.
Earlier this month, two police personnel died in an explosion in North Sinai, when a bomb was planted along Assiut Street in Arish and was detonated as an armored personnel carrier drove by. Three conscripts were injured in the explosion.
Two days before the incident, unknown gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on a police truck on the Fayoum road. One policeman died and three others were injured in the attack.
