Update: At least 1 dead, 26 injured in Tahrir clashes
One man was reportedly killed and 26 injured in clashes that broke out late Monday afternoon in Tahrir Square and on Qasr al-Nil Street between supporters of former President Mohamed Morsi and unidentified groups, reported eyewitnesses. The clashes died down by the evening.
The clashes erupted after pro-Morsi marches arrived at the Supreme Court on Ramses Street, close to Tahrir, the home of protesters who support Morsi's military-enforced removal from office.
Eyewitnesses reported that both sides fired birdshot and threw rocks and Molotov cocktails. Military forces and Central Security Forces were present at the site of the clashes. No serious injuries have been reported.
Pro-Morsi protesters staged marches today across the nation today as they continue to demand Morsi’s reinstatement.
The crowd marched to the Supreme Court to demand recently appointed Prosecutor General Hesham Barakat's removal after he ordered the arrest of many Muslim Brotherhood leaders, and the freezing of their assets.
They also marched to Abbasseya Square, near the Ministry of Defense, and to the American Embassy in Garden City. The protesters accuse the US of orchestrating Morsi's ouster.
ONTv also reported violent clashes between pro- and anti-Morsi protesters in the Delta city of Damietta.
Many protests staged by pro-Morsi groups over past weeks have turned deadly after clashes broke out between protesters and area residents.
