Tagammu Party to report activists for attacking headquarters

Tagammu Party Vice President Atef Maghawry told Mada Masr on Sunday that the party would report several activists to the general prosecutor for attacking the party’s headquarters during a march on Saturday.

Maghawry headed to Qasr al-Nil Police Station Saturday night and informed journalists that he would report activists Haitham Mohamadein, Hossam al-Hamalawy, Hesham Fouad, Alaa Abd El Fattah, Zizo Abdu, Laila Soueif, Mona Seif, Ramy Essam, Sherif al-Rouby, Rasha Azab, Khaled al-Sayed and Adly Eleiwa.

However, he told Mada Masr that he has decided to postpone his report to revise the names before giving them to the general prosecutor directly.

Maghawry accuses the activists of removing Sisi posters hung on the party’s headquarters in downtown and of chanting against Sisi and against the party’s leaders who announced their support for the former field marshal.

“This is outside the scope of political differences, but we have the ability to respond to those who commit crimes against us with the same tools that they use,” he told Mada Masr, saying that the party would consider those involved in the incident as political adversaries and use the law to deal with them.

The Revolutionary Socialists issued a statement about the incident, saying that some of the names that Maghawry informed journalists of on Saturday were not involved in the protest.

The march where the altercations took place is part of the “against you” campaign, which was initiated by April 6 and other movements last week to protest the candidacy of former Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
