Soldier killed in Sinai bus attack
An Egyptian soldier was killed Sunday when a bus carrying Central Security Forces was targeted by gunmen in Arish, according to a statement on the Armed Forces spokesperson’s Facebook page.
The victim was driving the bus between Sheikh Zuwayed and Kharouba checkpoint in Arish, North Sinai, when unidentified gunmen opened fire.
Three CSF soldiers were also injured in the attack, the statement said.
Sinai has witnessed multiple attacks on police stations and military checkpoints by unidentified gunmen over the past three years. Attacks have intensified since the ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi by the military on July 3.
The Armed Forces has launched a sustained crackdown on armed groups in the Sinai Peninsula.
