Security forces arrest protesting Azhar students

Security forces dispersed Azhar student protests on Friday morning with tear gas, arresting five protestors, state-owned Al-Ahram gate reports.

Azhar students chanted against the police and the military and demanded that detained students be allowed to take their exams. They protested the administration’s decision last Sunday to expel 76 students and remove a larger group, who were accused of rioting, from the dorms, bringing up the total number of Azhar students dismissed this semester to 131.

Tens of Azhar students who came together to protest are currently facing trial for rioting, vandalism and blocking roads.

Other pro-Morsi protests took place on Friday in Haram, Nasr City and Alexandria.

According to Al-Ahram, the police dispersed Brotherhood-affiliated protests that took place in the al-Montazah area in Alexandria on Friday with tear gas, after clashes began with the area’s residents.

The Anti-Coup Alliance had issued a statement last month announcing its rejection of the upcoming presidential elections. The alliance announced that it would not accept the results of the upcoming elections and that it will continue to consider ousted President Mohamed Morsi as the legitimate leader of the country. The alliance added that it will continue with protest movements on the ground demanding his return.
