Presidential spokesperson meets with, praises Tagammu Party

Social justice must be a policy rather than merely a slogan, presidential spokesperson Ahmed al-Moslemany said in a press conference today at the Tagammu Party's headquarters.

Moslemany added that efforts to transform social justice into a reality on the ground are being hampered by Egypt’s struggling economy.

He also praised the leftist Tagammu Party’s efforts in “presenting a true image of Egypt to the world.”

Today’s meeting follows Moslemany’s meeting last week with the Salafi-led Nour Party. Moslemany announced today that he listened to Tagammu leaders' proposals concerning constitutional amendments, and that he would pass on these recommendations to the interim president and the committee of 50 that will draft the amendments.

During the press conference Tagammu Party spokesperson Nabil Zaki called for all parties that “sell religion” to be banned and said that efforts are currently underway to reverse ikhwanat — or Brotherhood control — of state institutions.

Zaki said that the Muslim Brotherhood sought to control all state institutions with the ultimate objective of forging election results in order to prevent a peaceful transfer of power.

The Tagammu Party was founded in 1975 and was considered one of the main opposition parties before the January 25 uprising, although it supported Hosni Mubarak's crackdown on Islamists.
