Presidential spokespeople, ministers resign

In a series of resignations, presidential spokespersons Omar Amer, Ihab Fahmy and Cabinet Spokesman Alaa al-Hadidy pulled out from President Mohamed Morsi's team, Turkish news agency Anadolu reported Tuesday.

Fahmy came from the judiciary, while Amer and Hadidy served as a diplomat before joining the presidential team.

Shortly after, the state-run Middle News Agency reported that Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr also resigned. Joining the wave of Cabinet resignations later in the afternoon, Minister of Sports Al-Amry Farouq left his post, according to MENA. Farouq served as a board member of Al-Ahly Club and was reportedly sympathetic to a stronger Brotherhood presence in main clubs' boards.

Morsi has been facing strong opposition, recently manifested in mass protests calling for his ouster. The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces issued a statement Monday pledging to interfere if the ruling authorities do not respond to peoples' demands within 48 hours.

On Monday, a group of ministers presented their resignations independently, including the communications minister, the tourism minister, the environment minister, and the parliamentary and legal affairs minister.

The resignations are leaving the president and the organization he is affiliated with, the Muslim Brotherhood, increasingly isolated, with figures and authorities in various state institutions growing in opposition to him, including the judiciary and the security.
