Police locate bomb in residence of alleged Brotherhood member in Minya
Security forces located a bomb in the house of an alleged Muslim Brotherhood member on Thursday, according to the privately owned Al-Masry Al-Youm. The individual in question, who is a veterinarian by profession, was apparently was hiding a TNT explosive with a detonator inside his house in Samalout, a southern city in the Minya governorate.
According to the a source, police forces raided the house of the suspect late on Wednesday and located the explosive device. The suspect is reportedly married to the daughter of a Muslim Brotherhood leader who is currently incarcerated on charges of violence and terrorism.
Security forces are currently combing the area around the house for other explosive devices.
In April, a homemade bomb exploded near an officers’ rest area near the main Security Forces Center in Minya. According to reports at the time, the bomb exploded on the road security forces were meant to take on their way back from dispersing a protest.
In March, the Minya Criminal Court sentenced 529 Muslim Brotherhood supporters, 400 of which were tried in absentia, to death for violence following the dispersal of the Rabea al-Adaweya and Nahda sit-ins in August 2013. The defendants purportedly burned down the Matay police station and were responsible for killing a police officer.
