National Defense Council calls on Morsi supporters to ‘join the ranks’
The National Defense Council called on supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi, who are camped in Rabaa al-Adaweya and Nahda Square, to denounce violence and take part in the roadmap with the rest of the country, MENA reported.
In a statement Sunday, the council said it will not allow any obstacles to get in the way of Egyptians’ future.
The National Defense Council met Saturday to put into motion resolutions taken by the government to restore security and stability, especially those pertaining to “breaches and threats” caused by the sit-ins in Rabaa al-Adaweya and Nahda Square.
The council decided on several resolutions including supporting the government with measures to enforce security and combat any infringements, in accordance with law and human rights.
It said that this support does not preclude encouraging efforts toward mediations and negotiations, which might prevent bloodshed, as long as they occur within a limited and specified timeline and does not violate the law.
The council also expressed support for the government protecting citizens’ rights to safe and stable lives, and to face any attempt to terrorize civilians, blackmail the state and society, or impede productivity and development.
