Morsi supporters plan marches across Cairo, up security at sit-in
The National Alliance to Support Legitimacy has called for marches today across Cairo and Giza to mark what it dubs “Victory Day,” as it continues to call for the reinstatement of deposed President Mohamed Morsi.
The marches are set to start at 4 pm today from various points, including Nasr City, downtown, Mohandiseen, and 6th of October City.
The alliance is also organizing a women’s march from Galaa Square to Nahda Square, where Morsi supporters are camped, at 5 pm.
Security committees manning the sit-in at Rabea al-Adaweya have intensified efforts in anticipation of a crackdown by the Interior Ministry, according to the Freedom and Justice Party’s online portal.
The portal cites eyewitnesses who claim to have seen an increasing security presence around the sit-in and its various entrances. The portal warns that zero hour, when security forces will forcefully disperse the sit-in, is fast approaching.
Morsi’s supporters have vowed to continue their actions until the former president, ousted by the military on July 3, returns to office.
