Ministers and governors to receive maximum legal salary
اجتماع رئيس الوزراء بالمحافظين

Amendments to the law stipulating the salaries of a number of high-ranking government employees were approved by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Thursday, awarding the maximum legal salary to Egypt's prime minister, his deputies, Cabinet ministers, the Parliament speaker and governors.

The amendments (Law 28/2018), which were presented by the government and passed by Parliament on April 16, also set the salaries of deputy ministers and deputy governors at 90 percent of the maximum legal salary for government employees and set the pensions for all the aforementioned positions at 80 percent of the base salary, which is tax exempt.

A 2014 law set the maximum wage for government employees at 35 times the national minimum wage, amounting to LE42,000 a month.

Prior to the amendment, the law set the salaries for these high-ranking officials at a rate significantly lower than the maximum legal government wage.
