Military detonates Sinai car bomb
The Armed Forces detonated a car bomb outside a military camp in Sinai on Sunday, according to privately owned daily Al-Masry Al-Youm.
A microbus loaded with explosives headed towards the main gate of a military camp in Sheikh Zuwayed, Northern Sinai, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm’s military source.
Security forces fired on the bus immediately, which exploded a few meters from the gate.
The driver of the microbus died in the blast, with no military casualties.
Armed Forces spokesperson Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Ali said earlier today, during an inspection visit in Suez, that "the Egyptian peoples’ trust is a strong moral weapon for military officers and soldiers."
Ali praised the Suez Canal's security forces and added, "Egypt is safe and the Suez Canal is safe."
Later, on his official Facebook page, Ali wrote that the Armed Forces had thwarted another suicide attempt on the Jura/Sheikh Zuwayed road.
On spotting a suspicious vehicle — a silver Hyundai Verna with no license plates — on the side of the road, forces engaged with the vehicle, which exploded.
Further inspection revealed that the car contained a large amount of explosives, Ali added.
