Military colonel shot dead in Ismailia
Armed Forces Colonel Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Salam, 45, was shot dead by unknown assailants on the Cairo-Ismailia desert road on Sunday, privately owned Al-Masry Al-Youm reported.
The officer was getting into his car wearing his military uniform when unknown gunmen shot him in the head and fled the crime scene.
The deceased is a colonel in the engineering division of the Armed Forces and head of the Criminal Investigation Branch for western Ismailia.
Military and police forces are searching the Cairo-Ismailia desert road looking for the assailants.
Last month, police arrested a suicide bomber near a Central Security Forces camp in Ismailia.
Attacks on security forces have been a frequent occurrence since the deposition of former President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 by the Armed Forces, amid popular calls for the end of his rule.
