Media coverage of referendum to be limited
Egypt’s High Electoral Committee announced Sunday in a statement that, although media outlets will be allowed to cover the referendum vote, they are prohibited by law from declaring the result before it is officially released by the committee.
Judges will receive the ballots a day before the referendum, scheduled for January 14 and 15.
Journalists from local and private Egyptian satellite channels licensed by the General Authority for Investment (GAI) will be allowed to cover the referendum, in addition to international media personnel who have been vetted by the GAI.
Requests for clearance from the GAI will be received up until January 8, the statement added.
In addition, journalists allowed inside polling stations and covering events will have to show a permit from the HEC, as well as ID confirming membership of the Journalists Syndicate.
