Mansour decrees formation of elections committee

Interim President Adly Mansour a presidential decree Wednesday, forming a new iteration of the High Elections Committee to oversee another constitutional referendum.

 

Under the roadmap, the transitional plan issued in the wake of former President Mohamed Morsi’s ouster, Egypt is to conduct a referendum on a new constitution, most likely to be held by early December. The 2012 constitution was suspended shortly after Morsi’s ouster.

 

The decree applies provisions of the election law, which stipulates that the head of Cairo’s Appeal Court head of the committee.

 

Nabil Salib, the head of the court, will head the committee, and serve alongside six other judges, which include vice presidents of the Court of Cassation and heads of governorate appeal courts.

 

Six reserve members will be chosen from other judicial bodies.
