Interior Ministry announces arrest of 54 people affiliated with Allahom Thawra group

The Interior Ministry has announced the arrest of 54 members of what it called “the new organization of the Muslim Brotherhood,” named “Allahom Thawra” (“God give us Revolution”), which it said had planned hostile acts on the eighth anniversary of the January 25 revolution.

The ministry said in its announcement, published on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, that the National Security sector had obtained information that several fugitive Brotherhood leaders abroad had prepared a plan to cause havoc in Egypt during January and February. The plans were said to involve disruption, blocking roads, obstructing traffic, making chaos and terrorizing citizens in order to harm national interests.

The newly formed organization, according to ministry, was established on the internet by leading Brotherhood members, and included “elements of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood organization and a group of hostile elements under the name Allahom Thawra, who held several meetings outside the country via the international information network to agree on the steps of their plan.”

Economic entities affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt agreed financed the plan, according to the statement.

The statement referred to one leading Brotherhood figure as being involved in forming the new organization, Turkey-based Yasser al-Omda. It said Omda recruited several “hostile elements via the internet and social media programs, and connected them with Muslim Brotherhood cadres.”

Omda’s name was previously mentioned in 2015, when he called for the so-called “Thawret al-Ghalaba 11/11” (The Revolution of the Poor 11/11), which failed to take off.

Omda lives in Turkey, and belongs to a family affiliated with ousted Prestident Hosni Mubarak’s National Democratic Party. His father, Abdel Hamid al-Omda, was a former MP in Mubarak’s parliament, and his brother was a representative in Shura Council during the same period.
