Homemade bomb attack in Minya

An unknown assailant in a cab threw three homemade bombs at the headquarters of the Minya governorate on Saturday, state-run Al-Ahram said. A state of chaos reportedly ensued following the loud blast; however, no causalities resulted from the explosion.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the assailant threw three homemade devices, one of which exploded. The bomb contained a chemical that reacts to air and explodes once it is shaken.

A security source stated that security patrols were dispatched around the main squares of Minya, the court house, and Minya prison, in addition to all police stations and railway stations, state-run news portal EgyNews reported.

The main Corniche road was blocked and traffic was redirected to side streets, and strict security measures were imposed around the Central Security Force camp in the Shalabi district, EgyNews added.

Meanwhile, a pharmacist affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood was arrested later today in the 15th of May district in southern Cairo, for the alleged manufacturing and acquisition of explosives, the Interior Ministry stated.

Marbles, sodium nitrate, and highly explosive chemicals were reportedly found in the pharmacist's laboratory. The accused confessed to manufacturing homemade bombs and attacks on security personnel and civilians during Brotherhood marches, the statement added.
