High school student dies of injuries from Cairo University clashes last week

Hossam Salama, a student from Saideya high school, who was injured last week in the clashes around Cairo University, died this morning at Qasr al-Aini Hospital, reported state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper on Thursday.

According to Hesham Abu Eisha, head of the emergency unit at the hospital, Salama suffered from a head injury due to a birdshot pellet and was scheduled for brain surgery, but his health condition didn’t allow it.

Last week, clashes erupted at Cairo University between the police and student supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood. The clashes lead to many injuries and arrests.

The Health Ministry later confirmed one fatality and 14 injuries during clashes in Giza around Cairo University.

Three bombs exploded yesterday in the vicinity of Cairo University, killing Brigadier General Tarek al-Mergawy, who was stationed at a police checkpoint outside the main gates of the University.
