Group claims responsibility for Maadi RPG attack

A little-known jihadi group claimed responsibility for an attack on a communications installation in Maadi in a video released Tuesday.

Kita’ib al-Furqan (Battalions of the Koran) claimed to have carried out the Monday attack in the leafy neighborhood in southern Cairo.

The video clip opens with footage that appears to be reconnaissance before the attack, before a transition to two masked men running in a well-lit street. Three men are shown, not including the cameraman.

The video then shows what appears to be two rocket-propelled grenades being launched.

The grenades reportedly failed to hit the satellite dishes, which were broadcasting the Egyptian NileSat channel, and no casualties were reported.

There was damage to an international communications dish.

The same group also allegedly claimed responsibility for an RPG attack on a Chinese shipping vessel in early September. It was an attack on the “the mosque of detriment and the tongue of the Pharaoh’s magicians,” reads the statement at the end of Tuesday’s video.

“The ongoing battle today is a battle of destiny, which Sunni Muslims approach despite their differences against unbelief,” it says.
