Four injured in North Sinai attack

Four people, including one civilian, were injured Sunday in an armed attack on buses carrying CSF soldiers in Sheikh Zuwayed, North Sinai, Al-Ahram reported.

Unidentified assailants opened fire on buses transporting soldiers from Rafah, injuring an officer in his right leg, a soldier in his chest, and another in his left leg, the state-run paper said.

The civilian suffered a gunshot wound to his jaw.

Last August, 24 central security conscripts were shot dead in the North Sinai city of Arish after an attack by armed gunmen at a checkpoint.

The conscripts were heading back to their base in Rafah after a holiday when they were attacked at the Abou Tawila checkpoint.

Sinai has witnessed multiple attacks on police stations and military checkpoints by unidentified militants over the past three years. Attacks have intensified since the ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi by the military on July 3.
