EgyptAir employee dies at Cairo airport

An EgyptAir security technician at Cairo International Airport died on Sunday when a catering cart hit him on the airstrip.

According to media reports, 31-year-old  Mostafa Abdel Monein Azab, from the passenger security department, sustained severe injuries to the head when the cart reversed into him. He died later.

Sources state that a committee from EgyptAir’s security and quality authority opened an investigation to ensure similar accidents do not reoccur. Another investigation is being carried out by the prosecution.

Fatalities and accidents resulting from neglect have become a staple in the daily news in Egypt. Earlier this month, a student at the German University in Cairo (GUC), died in the campus parking lot when a school bus reversed and pinned her against another bus. The 19-year-old freshmen bled to death before the ambulance could arrive to the site.

In April 2013, Mansoura University professor Laila al-Zalabany fatally struck a freshman student when she suddenly reversed her car. The professor was charged with one year in prison and a LE5,000 fine.
