Detention of Shater and others renewed
The general prosecution office has renewed the detention of the Muslim Brotherhood’s number-two man Khairat al-Shater, former Supreme Guide Mahdi Akef, Freedom and Justice Party head Mohamed Saad al-Katatny and Brotherhood leader Mohamed Rashad Bayoumi for 15 days while investigations continue into the charges brought against them of incitement to kill.
Eight people were killed when on June 30 protesters attacked the Muslim Brotherhood headquarters in Moqattam, Cairo, and individuals inside responded with live gunfire.
Shater and the others are charged with incitement to kill, attempted murder and possession of weapons.
Shater, Katatny and Bayoumi are currently already in detention in relation to other charges.
