Constitution committee to form preamble subcommittee

A subcommittee will be set up to write the preamble of the constitution, Amr Moussa, the head of the 50-member committee tasked with amending the draft, has decided, privately owned newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm reported on Tuesday.

According to Mohamed al-Salmawy, the committee’s spokesperson, there are several suggestions with regards to the preamble including the drawing up of a map that clearly delineates the borders of Egypt. Al-Masry Al-Youm quoted him as saying that this would be the first time a map is drawn in an Egyptian constitution and it aims at consolidating the country's borders.

The constitution's committee also agreed on referring in the preamble to events on both January 25, 2011 and June 30, 2013 as the reasons behind the drafting of the current constitution.

Salmawy said that members of the preamble subcommittee include Salah Fadl, law professor at Ain Shams University and Mahmoud Rabie, a professor at the American University in Cairo.
