Case against Brotherhood PM continues
A Cairo court will rule on the appeal lodged by former Prime Minister Hesham Qandil against the one-year prison sentence handed down to him for failing to implement a court ruling issued in favor of employees of the Nile Cotton Ginning Company.
Qandil’s lawyers had argued that the court should not accept the case because it is currently being considered by the Supreme Administrative Court.
The defense also argued that the case was lodged by an individual without legal standing and that the Criminal Procedure Code requires an individual raising a case to have suffered direct harm by the defendant.
Last year an administrative court ordered that Qandil return company stocks to the state and annul the decision to sell the company. Qandil did not implement the ruling.
